VISITOR CONTRABAND INTERDICTION | November 9– November 15, 2023

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to suspension or termination of their visitation privileges and arrest.

Central Florida Reception Center: On Sunday, November 12, visitor Amaya Hidalgo was visiting inmate Alex Baez (X71037) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Upon a consented search, staff discovered marijuana residue and the visitation was terminated.

Baker Re-Entry: On Saturday, November 11, visitor Kiya Hager was visiting inmate Kevin Varela (V49128) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Upon a consented search, staff discovered marijuana residue and the visitation was terminated.

Calhoun Correctional Institution: On Saturday, November 11, visitor Adelita Torres was visiting inmate Hansedt Mendez (M09044) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Upon a consented search, staff discovered marijuana residue and the visitation was terminated.

Desoto Annex: On Saturday, November 11, visitor Kiara Key was visiting inmate Ladarrius Boatwright (L96723) when the visitor went to the restroom and left two packages of marijuana and cocaine. The packages consisted of 22.5 grams of marijuana and 55.5 grams of cocaine. Key was arrested on charges of introduction of contraband and transported by the Desoto Sheriff’s Office to jail.

Calhoun Correctional Institution: On Saturday, November 11, visitor Victoria Conklin was visiting inmate Victor Ramirez (M59538) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Upon a consented search, staff discovered suboxone. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was contacted, and Conklin was arrested and transported to jail.

Liberty Correctional Institution: On Saturday, November 11, visitor Laronda Henderson was visiting Donta Williams (U54555) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Upon a consented search, staff discovered one handgun and 8 rounds of ammunition. The visitation was terminated.

Liberty Correctional Institution: On Saturday, November 11, visitor Regina Brown was visiting inmate Zachary Brooks (P45438) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Upon a consented search, staff discovered one 9mm handgun, 15 rounds of ammunition and marijuana residue. The visitation was terminated.

Tomoka Work Camp: On Saturday, November 11, visitor Melanie Drinks was visiting inmate Antoine Drinks (J31332) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana residue and the visitation was terminated.  

Reception Medical Center: On Saturday, November 11, visitor Marla Saniel was visiting inmate Ryan Plummer (132429) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana residue and the visitation was terminated.

Okeechobee Correctional Institution: On Saturday, November 11, visitor Shelandra Wilson was visiting inmate Adam Durr (108559) when staff conducted a pat search. Upon a consented search, staff discovered 58 grams on methamphetamines on Wilson. Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted, and the visitor was detained.

Polk Correctional Institution: On Friday, November 10, visitor Leauna Coburn was visiting inmate Coltrane Kennedy (R90653) when staff conducted a pat search. Upon a consented search, staff discovered 23 grams of fentanyl in the visitor’s hand. Coburn was arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and transported to jail on charges of trafficking, possession of drugs and introduction of narcotics to an institution.

Sumter Correctional Institution: On Friday, November 10, visitor Taneshia Chapman was visiting inmate Samuel Austin (530161) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana residue and the visitation was terminated.

Union Correctional Institution: On Friday, November 10, visitor Lashawna Hughes was visiting inmate Derrick Smith (490606) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered one 380-caliber pistol, five 380-caliber rounds of ammunition and marijuana residue. The visitation was terminated.

Union Correctional Institution: On Friday, November 10, visitor Christina Luckett was visiting inmate Michael Bargo (U41472) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana residue and the visitation was terminated.

Wakulla Correctional Institution: On Friday, November 10, visitor Juana Sevilla-Lagos was visiting inmate Jose Elvir Carcamo (S71844) when a K9 alerted to the visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana residue and the visitation was terminated.
