WHAT:
The Prison Pups & Pals (PP&P) program brings together rescue dogs from the Halifax Humane Society with inmates from Tomoka Correctional Institution Work Camp, who obedience-train them to prepare them for their forever homes. The graduating dogs are crate trained, housebroken, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots and micro-chipped. The program also partners with the Orlando V.A. to provide trained companion dogs to veterans in need.

Media representatives covering this event will have access to take photographs and video of the graduation and interview inmate graduates and consenting volunteers.
WHEN:
Thursday, January 16, 2019, 10:00 a.m.
Media should arrive no later than 9:15 a.m. for processing through security and equipment set up. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.
WHY:
Through programs like Prison Pups N Pals, the Florida Department of Corrections equips inmates with competencies conducive to rehabilitation, successful social reintegration and employability. Dog program graduation ceremonies are held in a traditional graduation setting and inmates showcase the graduating dogs and their newly learned obedience skills.
