Florida Correctional Officer Passes Away
Officer Johnnie Brown’s courage and compassion will not soon be forgotten

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) mourns the loss of Correctional Officer Johnnie Brown who passed away on August 10, 2020. Correctional Officer Brown was assigned to the Reception and Medical Center in Lake Butler.

Officer Brown is the third FDC correctional officer reported by family to pass away following a positive COVID-19 test.

“Officer Brown’s loss will be felt by many, his character and contributions as a correctional officer to the Florida Department of Corrections will be remembered by all who worked alongside him each day,” said FDC Secretary Mark Inch. “I offer Officer Brown’s grieving family, friends and fellow staff members my deepest sympathies in this difficult time. We will never forget his commitment to public safety and to the state of Florida.”

Officer Brown began his career as a correctional officer with FDC in 2006.
