Media Invitation to Hounds with Hearts K-9 Graduation at
Orlando-Area Correctional Institution

WHAT: The Florida Department of Corrections in partnership with the Greyhound Advancement Center are pleased to invite media to attend the celebration of the Hounds with Hearts graduating K-9 class at Central Florida Reception Center (CFRC). The graduation will showcase the dogs and inmate-trainers’ newly learned talents, awards, and unification with adopters. .

Media attendees can take photographs or film throughout the event and will have an opportunity to interview selected inmate trainers, adopters, and staff.

WHEN: Friday, January 13, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. EST

Media should arrive no later than 12:30 p.m. for processing through security and equipment setup. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

WHY: Hounds with Hearts is a 10 to 12 week basic obedience program through the Greyhound Advancement Center adoption program. The program is used to train, socialize, and adopt greyhounds that will become companion or therapy dogs. In conjunction with the State of Florida Occupational Credentialing Program, inmate participants become certified dog trainers upon completion of the necessary requirements.
