Media Invitation to Equestrian Program

WHAT: The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF), and the Florida Department of Corrections are pleased to invite media to visit the TRF Equestrian Program at Lowell CI to see the outdoor pasture program area, meet the horses and hear the stories of the women who care for them.

WHEN: Tuesday July 26, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. EST
Media should arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. for processing and equipment set up. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

WHY: The TRF Second Chances program pairs eligible inmates with retired racehorses to provide care while learning both life and vocational skills. Inmate participants at Lowell CI take part in a rigorous training program where they learn horse anatomy, how to care for injuries, equine nutrition and other aspects of horse care. Graduates of the program receive a certification and often go on to careers as farriers, vet assistants, and caretakers.
