FDC Program Partner to Host Virtual Horse Show from Lowell CI
The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation event will showcase the program and feature interviews from participants

Ocala, Fla. — The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF), and the Florida Department of Corrections are pleased to invite media and the public to watch the TRF 20th Anniversary Horse Show, which will be livestreamed on Thursday, October 21 at 8:00 p.m. Viewers will virtually visit the program at Lowell Correctional Institution to meet the horses and hear the stories of the women who care for them.

The TRF Second Chances program which pair inmates with retired racehorses to provide care while learning both life and vocational skills. Inmate participants at Lowell CI take part in a rigorous training program where they learn horse anatomy, how to care for injuries, equine nutrition and other aspects of horse care. Graduates of the program receive a certification and often gone on to careers as farriers, vet assistants, and caretakers.
